Alan Minter dies at 69

British boxing chiefs announced the death of former world middleweight champion, Alan Minter on Thursday. 

Minter went on to claim the undisputed middleweight title against Italian Vito  Alanofermo in Las Vegas in 1980.

A tragic event happened in his career when Italian Angelo Jacopucci died as a result of injuries sustained in their European title fight in 1978

The Sussex southpaw had his last fight in 1981 after losing his title to Marvin Hagler inside three rounds at Wembley arena the year before. 

He retired from the boxing career with a record of 39 wins,  nine defeats and one no contest. 

"The stewards and staff of the British boxing board of control are very saddened to hear of the passing on of former world middleweight champion Alan Minter" a brief BBC statement read. 

Former British world heavyweight champion, Frank Bruno paid tribute to Minter writing on twitter." Alan Minter RIP.
