Punch has now vowed to now prefix President Muhammed Buhari's name as a military Dictator. They said this while protesting against the rising disregard for the rule of law by Buhari's adminstration.
In the statement, they stated their reason for the decision.
As a symbolic demonstration of our protest against autocracy and military-style repression, PUNCH (all our print newspapers, The PUNCH, Saturday PUNCH, Sunday PUNCH, PUNCH Sports Extra, and digital platforms, most especially Punchng.com) will henceforth prefix Buhari’s name with his rank as a military dictator in the 80s, Major General, and refer to his administration as a regime, until they purge themselves of their insufferable contempt for the rule of law,”
They made instances on the several occasions where Buhari's administration has gone contrary to the rule of law.
In Oct 2016, The Department of State Security (DSS) invaded the homes of Judges in the middle of night, breaking down doors. Also, several arrests and detention of citizens without trials.
The one that broke the camel's back was that of the activist and the leader of the "#RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore who was arrested, released after months of being in detention. He was later rearrested in court premises. Till now, no charges has been filled against him.
These and many more is why Punch named Buhari, a Dictator.
