ECOWAS withdraws peace-keeping troops from Guinea-Bissau

The ECOWAS has withdrawn peace keeping troops it deployed for Guinea-Bissau in 2012 after the coup against Prime Minister Carlos Gomes Junior.

The troops consisted about 1,000 soldiers and were charged with the mandate to protect heads of institutions and public buildings.

Authorities say that Guinea Bissau's armed forces will now be responsible of maintaining order and stability in the country.

The country's newly elected president, Umaro Sissoco Embalo was confirmed on Monday by the country's Supreme Court following an appeal lodged by opponents eight months ago.
